Why do you require a consultation for a color appointment?

We base our pricing off of time, to book adequate timing and confirm pricing, and most importantly, communicating expectations, are all key to ensuring a positive outcome. Meeting with the stylist beforehand allows discussing hair goals without any stress of time allotment and ensuring we are respectful of a guest’s beauty budget. Additionally, its offers an opportunity to do a patch test to ensure no allergic reactions to hair color. Stylists and guests both have an opportunity to see if its a good fit. [We’re not everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s okay too]

Is æffect hair actually green?

YES! Besides all of our products being produced in green facilities, we partner with Green Circle Salons to recycle our waste, we purchase carbon credits to offset our CO2 emissions, and were certified as a Green Business by the City of Winter Park. Additionally, we donate to environmental and local non-profits. [Ask for more information in person to get the full scope of our obsession]

What about the dog when someone enters?

Sterling is our concierge. He likes to bark to announce people, he also enjoys being pet, and if you really want to win him over, he has treats by the door. If your appointment is with Celina, he will also keep your seat warm while you’re being shampooed. Don’t worry he won’t escape, he’s too obsessed with Celina to leave without her or her permission. [seriously, obsessed]

How do I know my stylist is being paid enough without tips?

Our team sat down and ensured our pricing allowed a livable wage for each member of the team. We also regularly meet to ensure or adjust as needed. It also means no math anxiety [Hooray!]

Why price things by the hour?

Our team is dedicated to their craft and are skilled at achieving a desired outcome while respecting the guest’s budget. We are dedicated to sustainability, not just to the environment, but also to the health of your hair, your lifestyle, your personal style and level of skill. It also streamlines pricing for regular guests. [No sticker shock]

How can I prepare for my upcoming appointment?

Avoid wearing turtlenecks, hoodies, or high neck collars unless willing to change into a smock. Please arrive on time. Inspiration photos are always a helpful tool when discussing any changes. We suggest using google images, and that those images be of people with similar color and/or type of hair for realistic expectations. [Avoid Pintest, its honestly the worst for hair]

What if I want balayage, but can’t pronounce it?

First off, its bah-lee-ahge, add extra h’s to sound fancier. Secondly, any of our team can do balayage, but its actually a technique that results in a warm and subtle sun kissed look. That’s why we require consultations, the beauty industry if filled with misnomers. [Avoid bringing this up with Celina unless you want to hear her rant]

What if I have my formula from another Davines Salon?

We love that and we appreciate the referrals; since we charge based on time and try to best match our stylists to the guest, consultations are still required. [seriously, no exceptions]

What if I hate doing my hair, who should I book with?

If you want to learn how to manage your hair, anyone on the team can help. If you’ve ever referred to your hair routine as lazy, minimalist, or low maintenance hair, Liz is your stylist.

What if I’m wanting to come in as soon as possible and want a major change with my hair, who should I book with?

Again, any of the team can help. But Krisi loves a good challenge and is available since she recently relocated to Florida.

What if I’m completely lost and have no idea what to do with my hair, who should I book with?

Actually, any of the team can help. But if you’re feeling extra lost and confused, Celina is filled with an insane amount of information to help.

What if I really want to express myself and go all out, who should I book with?

Again, any of the stylists love to create new looks, but Victoria and Alli both love to create eye catching vivid colors.

What if going to the salon is new for me, who should I book with?

We welcome all clients and take the time to communicate and address each guests individual needs. But if you need a little extra hand holding, book with Alli

Do you offer relaxers or perm services?

We believe in helping guests learn to love their natural texture and neither of those services ensure the health of hair, which goes against our ethos of sustainability. [and we don’t love the smell]

Can I book a smoothing or keratin services?

Definitely not, the health risk of smoothing treatments to stylist is catalogued by research, and again, its not sustainable to put our stylists or our guests health at risk. [yes, they’re bad for you]

I want a fade or a haircut with clippers, who should I book with?

You’re best option is to book with a barber who works with clippers, our stylists work with short hair but do not offer services using clippers and fades. Check our our list of recommended local partnerships

I’ve been to æffect hair for a service, but it was almost a year or more ago?

For a cut, request closer to 90 minutes since it’s a haircut correction not maintenance. If you’re due for color or unsure, send us a text and we can confirm the time needed.
